ANATOMY/PHYSIOLOGY
The students will gain a thorough knowledge of the human body by first establishing an understanding of the structures and organization of the human body by examining the following major body systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, digestive, excretory, respiratory, cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, and reproductive. The lectures and laboratory exercises are designed to foster an appreciation for the relationship between the science of the body systems and the healing art of massage.
Initial study will include historical background, physiological effects, indications/contraindications, establishing therapist-client contact, draping techniques, and familiarization with various tools of the trade. Study will continue with the study, practice, and application of reflexology and deep tissue massage, sports massage, on–site chair massages, and pregnancy massage.
